Navirec has cooperated with the Estonian Academy of Security Sciences (hereafter EAS) before, and now we can bring you a new exciting story. Namely, EAS participated in a competition organized by the European Border and Coast Guard Agency, or Frontex, the purpose of which is to find smart and affordable solutions for detecting, tracking, and identifying low-flying objects at the border of the European Union (hereafter EU). The drones used by the EAS again had Navirec GPS devices installed on them.

Almost a year ago, in December 2022, Frontex announced a competition aimed at finding smart and affordable solutions for detecting, tracking, and identifying low-flying objects at the EU border. Such flying objects include both low-flying manned ultralight and conventional aircraft, as well as remotely piloted aircraft systems (eg drones). Competitors had to propose solutions that would be in line with the needs and requirements of the European Border and Coast Guard community.

A total of 21 works from 11 EU countries participated in the first phase of the competition: France, Germany, Greece, Sweden, Poland, Bulgaria, Slovenia, Estonia, Lithuania, Croatia and the Netherlands. The task of the contestants was to present in writing an innovative concept of possibilities and technological solutions to detect and identify low-flying objects.

The EAS drone center from Estonia, which was created in 2018, presented its vision of the possibilities of protecting the EU border from such illegal border crossings. EAS drones carry Navirec GPS devices, with which the drone center already has good experience.

Frontex praised all the participants and stated that all the works broadly met their expectations and offered interesting food for thought. Today, the first phase of the competition is over and the best 10 ideas have been selected. Unfortunately, this time EAS did not make it to the finals in the tight competition, but it is still a great experience for a small country like Estonia.

Navireci GPS devices are the ideal companion for drones

The cooperation between the SKA drone center and Navirec started in 2020 and you can read about it HERE. Already the first tests showed that Navirec devices and the tracking system are perfectly suited for EAS drones. Above all, the accuracy and sensitivity of Navirec devices, which are crucial for controlling and tracking the location of unmanned aerial vehicles, are valued.

GPS devices are no longer the domain of all-terrain vehicles, but are also perfectly suited for tracking stationary objects as well as water and air vehicles!

Navirec’s customers use the logistics solution for a wide variety of purposes – fuel consumption reduction, location determination, driver identification and their actions behind the wheel, tracking vehicle maintenance, temperature monitoring in the cargo area, and much more.
